12th February Tree Planting
It’s 10:30am and the clouds are drifting away setting us up for a bright, dry morning. Matt rolls up in his pickup truck, jumps out and gives us the low-down. There is a selection of Oak, Ash, Rowan, Wild Cherry and Silver Birch saplings to plant and, for those feeling more energetic, four sturdy Acer campestre’s (Acer campestre Louisa Red Shine). So with the briefing complete Matt shows us the right direction and off we go.
The saplings are to be planted in a fenced off area, so hopefully that’ll protect them from wandering folk and bounding dogs. The soil is soft and wet, so the first sapling goes in quickly, with the rest not far behind.
